Love Dogs? Join us for
Kickin’ it with K9s!

We know that animal lovers in our community want to do more to help shelter dogs. And now, there’s an easy way to do it!

Introducing Kickin’ it with K9s! Kitsap Humane Society is inviting community members to take dogs on field trips to the park, to the beach, and other dog-friendly destinations  in Kitsap – even sleepovers at your home! – to give them a break from the stress of shelter life.

We’ve made it easy to participate. All it requires to begin is a 20-minute orientation. Then you can be on your way with your shelter dog, some simple instructions, and a special doggie backpack filled with supplies! Daytime field trips are scheduled seven days a week, except during shelter open hours, when dogs need to be in their kennels to meet potential adopters.

Kickin’ It with K9s launches Sunday, May 26, with orientations taking place throughout the day. To sign up, please contact

Once you’re on your field trip or sleepover, we encourage you to share photos of your K9 companion on social media, so others can see your pup having fun in real life (and help get them adopted!) Be sure to use the hashtag #kickinitwithk9s and tag Kitsap Humane Society! 😊 We’re also interested in what you learn about your dog’s behavior while on your adventure, so we can better meet his or her needs and help them find their perfect match! When you return to the shelter, you’ll fill out a brief report card to share with the dogs future adopter.

Kitsap Humane Society is honored to be among 100 shelters in the U.S. chosen by Maddie’s Fund to be part of this program/study on how field trips and sleepovers can reduce stress in shelter dogs.
