Dog Foster Homes Needed!

Love Dogs? Be A Foster Parent!

If you want to help shelter dogs from the comfort of your own home, consider fostering a dog from Kitsap Humane Society! Foster homes help us expand the capacity to help animals in need of care. So far this year, more than 50 dogs have benefited from foster care, but many more are in need.

We have various adult dog foster opportunities, ranging from overnight sleepovers, to short “shelter breaks,” and longer-term foster commitments that can last anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few

months. We always work to accommodate foster parents who need to take a break from fostering due to vacations or other personal commitments.

Would you like to know more? Here are some additional details:

  • Adult dog foster homes are needed for dogs aged 6 months to senior
  • Adult dogs typically need foster placement for three reasons: they are recovering from a medical condition or surgery, they are waiting for special rescue placement, or they are stressed in a kennel environment but do well in a home setting.
  • All medical care is provided by KHS.
  • All supplies — such as food, medicine, crates, potty pads and training supplies — are provided by Kitsap Humane Society.
  • Behavior and training support is provided by our Canine Behavior and Training Coordinator, who is also a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT).
  • If there are other dogs in the foster home, they are required come to the shelter to meet the KHS dog to ensure everyone gets along before the KHS dog goes into foster care.
