Delta Society Pet Partners Needed!

August 23, 2011

For nearly 20 years the Kitsap Humane Society has provided animal-assisted visits to local retirement, long-term care, and residential facilities. In 2011, we updated our program to follow the Delta Society Pet Partners criteria. The Delta Society is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving human health through service and therapy animals.

We are currently seeking Delta Society Pet Partners for our Volunteer program. We have nearly 25 local facilities requesting visits from our volunteers! As a KHS Delta Society Pet Partner you don’t have to contact, coordinate, or secure paperwork from the facilities. We take care of that so you can focus on visits!

Becoming a Delta Society Pet Partner:
Kitsap Humane Society is happy to partner with the Delta Society to begin coordinating training workshops in the Kitsap area as well as local evaluations. Prospective volunteers should attend an all-day workshop to learn about the program and sign up for a following Pet Partners evaluation.

Next Pet Partners Workshop:
Date: Sept. 11, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Location: Haselwood YMCA, Silverdale (please do not contact the YMCA for more details)

KHS also hosts a weekly group support training for prospective Pet Partners working toward passing their evaluation. A local evaluator is on-hand to answer basic training questions and help you and your pet meet Pet Partner standards.
