A Day in the Life of a KHS Foster Family: Petey the Tripod Finds a Home!

February 21, 2011

Today’s Shepherd antics again had me giggling. Bruno and Petey were playing tug-o-war with Peppe’s makeshift shirt. Don’t worry, I had taken it off of Peppe because it was no longer needed! Petey was lying on his side on the floor and Bruno was dragging him around the living room by the shirt. Silly boys.

Petey has continued to improve and has even ventured out front to check out the cul-de-sac. It has taken us months to build his confidence to the point where he will explore outside of his comfort zone. He is still fearful of new people and loud noises, but he does not react as strongly and will allow people to pet him if they are patient and let him come to them.

We have discovered that Petey is a conoisseur of soft, squishy places such as couches and beds. After we let him out of his crate in the morning, he will jump up on the bed and snuggle his way into the middle for some morning affection.

You may have already guessed, but Petey has also snuggled his way into our hearts. We have learned a very valuable lesson from our foster experience…we are TERRIBLE fosters. It takes a very special family to take a dog in, love them, teach them and allow another family to take them into their homes. We are just not that special! Petey is going to now become an official part of our family-Foster Failure #2!

Below:  Petey & Peppe, our 2 newest additions!

To all those successful Foster Families, we appreciate all that you do and encourage everyone to try fostering. You will either help animals to be the best they can be for another family or you will find your new forever friend! Either way it is a happy ending!
