August Adoption Events Were a Huge Success!

August 29, 2017

In August, we beat all previous records in the history of Kitsap Humane Society by doing 606 adoptions in one month! It all started with our Kitty Hall event series, where local city halls were taken over by all things kitty! Adoptable cats and kittens were on-site looking for loving new homes, while KHS also had Kitty Hall-themed giveaways and shared information on: low-cost spay/neuter opportunities for cats, barn cats, how to foster kittens, volunteer opportunities, and cat behavior!

The Kitty Hall series was a huge success! The first event was on Tuesday, August 8th at Poulsbo City Hall. Mayor Becky Erickson was in attendance greeting adopters, cuddling kittens, and welcoming visitors to Kitty Hall. At our first event, a total of 8 kittens found their forever homes! The following week on Tuesday, August 15th Kitty Hall came to Bainbridge Island, and 14 kittens were adopted! Deputy Mayor Sarah Blossom adopted two furry friends of her own, and our partner PAWS of Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap had an info booth as well. Our final Kitty Hall event took place on Tuesday, August 29th in Port Orchard. The final event of the series was also a big hit- Mayor Putaansuu made an appearance and 4 kittens found loving new homes! For our first ever Kitty Hall series, we are happy to report a total of 26 kitten adoptions!

Not only was Kitty Hall a resounding success, but on Saturday, August 19th KHS participated in Clear the Shelters- a nationwide pet adoption event spearheaded by NBCUniversal owned television stations. The event was featured on King 5 Seattle, advertised on Rover.com, and was even promoted in People Magazine (in which KHS dog Hershey was spotlighted)!

For the Clear the Shelters event, KHS featured free adult cat adoptions, and ½ off adoption fees for all other pets, including dogs, puppies, and kittens. Adopters came out by the dozens, lining up to adopt new companions. To help curb hunger while adopters were waiting, several food vendors came out to serve lunch and drinks including Kurdish Kitchen Cuisine, Ray & Dee’s Chamorro Food, Taqueria La Rancherita, and Laughing Dog Kitchen.

In total, 63 animals found homes during Clear the Shelters, making it the busiest adoption day of 2017! Thank you to everyone’s support throughout August, and thank you to every adopter who welcomed a new furry family member into their home!
