Internships

The Behavior, Animal Resources and Care (BARC) Internship Program

Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) is committed to serving our community and beyond as more than a shelter. We rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for thousands of animals every year, and do what we’re able to keep humans and their furry family members together – supporting our mission to provide life-changing solutions to people in need.

BARC Interns are an important part of our volunteer program and participate in the daily operations of the shelter. The Intern supports the Animal Care & Behavior department by caring for various animals temporarily residing in the shelter including dogs, cats, small animals (pocket pets), livestock, and exotic pets.

The Behavior, Animal Resources and Care Internship Program (BARC) is a wonderful opportunity to gain experience in animal welfare and to further career opportunities in the field.

All candidates must attend a volunteer orientation, interview, and may require certain skill classes for the program.

The internship length varies from eight to 12 weeks and provides various training for the position. The scheduled requirements are at least one (1) to two (2) days of service a week, typically four to six hours a day.
