Opportunity Descriptions

Dog Walking: Keep our dogs healthy and happy by giving them a break to go outside, get some fresh air, and interact with people outside of the kennel. Dog walkers walk dogs through our on-site walking trails. Walkers also assist staff with keeping the kennels clean, feeding and watering the dogs, and answering general customer questions.

Kennel Cleaning:  Help our staff maintain a sanitary and healthy environment for our dogs during their stay. Clean kennels, do laundry and dishes, replace bedding, and feed and water the dogs.

Cat Cuddling: Help make our cats stay at the shelter a little brighter by providing love and attention by petting and brushing them.

Cat Room Cleaning: Help our staff keep the cats healthy by helping to clean the cat room in the morning. Scoop litter boxes, feed and water the cats.

Behavior Team: Join our team of trainers to help our “behaviorally challenged” dogs learn some basic behaviors and improve their manners using positive reinforcement. Increase their chances of adoption while also challenging their minds.

Animal Assisted Therapy: Enrich the lives of people and animals by visiting local nursing homes and assisted-living facilities with a shelter dog or cat.

Adoption Outreach: Take shelter animals to PetSmart or PETCO and assist staff with adoptions, feeding, cleaning and taking dogs out for potty breaks.

Events: Help our event department with our fundraiser events. Jobs include planning, getting ready for the event, or working at the event.

Front Lobby Greeter: Greet our customers with a smile. Help to answer questions and point customers in the right direction.

General Office Help: Assist various departments with office duties; filing, mailings, data entry, etc.

Info Booths: Assist KHS staff at community events. Represent the shelter, answer questions, and provide information about our programs to the community.

Foster Parent: Take care of puppies and kittens in your home until they are old enough to be spayed or neutered and adopted. Fostering provides the shelter more room to house other adoptable animals, and gives the foster animals a chance to be better socialized, which is critical at a young age.
