Getting Started

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with Kitsap Humane Society. Volunteers are a vital part of our shelter, helping the animals and staff in many ways. Last year volunteers donated almost 40,000 hours of time helping with everything from walking dogs and petting cats to organizing events and maintaining our walking trails. We are always looking for dedicated people who can bring their talents and love for animals to our shelter.

Volunteers must be 16 years old to work independently. Volunteers between the ages of 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times while volunteering.  Sorry, we do not accept volunteers under the age of 10.

Volunteers must commit to six months of service and work a minimum of 8 hours per month to remain active.

The first step in getting started is to attend a no-obligation free volunteer orientation.  Orientations are held twice a month.   At orientation we will discuss general information about Kitsap Humane Society, what we do, and how you can help.  Potential volunteers will have the opportunity to talk to current volunteers, ask questions, and learn about current volunteer opportunities.  Upon completion of orientation, future volunteers will fill out an application and sign up for any additional training classes that may be required.  A materials fee of $10 per volunteer is required. This fee covers the cost of a volunteer tee shirt, name tag, and training materials.
