More Lives Saved During ASPCA $100K Challenge

Kitsap Humane Society entered the three-month ASPCA $100K Challenge in August 2011 and we are proud to announce we concluded with a total of 1,425 lives saved (August – October). This is an increase of 34 percent more dogs adopted over the same period last year and an increase of 23 percent more cats. KHS finished 17th in the nation out of 50 shelters during the ASPCA Challenge and fifth in our region for the most lives saved over last year.

We have many milestones to celebrate throughout the Challenge, but most rewarding was finding homes for the 1,425 animals that got a second chance. Through staff and volunteer dedication and lots of hard work, KHS maintained a live release rate of 94 percent and celebrated the most adoptions in one day in KHS history with a whopping 43 adoptions.

Many staff, volunteers and our community made this possible in addition to rescue groups who partnered with KHS during the Challenge. We would like to extend a very special thanks to a few pivotal groups such as the Noah Adoption Center, PAWS of Bainbridge Island and Jefferson County Humane Society which assisted in adoptions and contributed to boosting KHS Challenge numbers.

Thank you to ASPCA for bringing shelters across the nation together. It's a rare occurrence and though we have never met our partners, it's a great feeling to know we all did this together.
